The Neighborhood

The NotConsulting Manifesto · v0.1 · Oct 2026

Stop. Start.
Keep.

Three questions about how consulting should work. This is the neighborhood's version. Sign it if you share it; propose if something is missing.

What we stop doing

  1. Putting the firm's own process ahead of what the client needs.
  2. Billing by the hour at partner rates while juniors do the work.
  3. Taking the problem home, running it through the machine and handing it back in firm jargon.
  4. Feeding off the client. The job is to feed them: take risks, execute and struggle alongside them.

What we start doing

  1. Before proposing anything, human-centered design to understand who the client is and what they face.
  2. Joining their teams with agile methods and switching roles as each project demands.
  3. Tying a real share of our fees to KPIs and OKRs we set together before we start.
  4. Actually transferring know-how, as coaches and as teammates.

What we keep

  1. The work capacity and rigor of junior and senior teams.
  2. On one condition: all that energy points at the client's goal and at no hidden agenda.
